The Unbound pitch
The video
The pitch video for the book of Conversations with Spirits was shot by Kris McManus from Inroad Media.
Filming was originally planned to take place in the
Lamb and Flag in Covent Garden - Charles Dickens’ favourite pub. And, naturally, I imagined myself reclining on a cracked-leather sofa, supping a pint of ale.
Instead, due to a mysterious and persistent banging sound coming from the pub’s toilets, the video was shot in an alleyway around the corner, in the midst of driving rain.
Who are Unbound?
Unbound.co.uk is a new type of publishing company that tries and involve readers in the writing process and crowd-fund authors’ new works.
Set up by John Mitchinson, director of research for the British panel game QI; Justin Pollard, historian and QI researcher; and author and Idler Dan Kieran,
Unbound was launched in 2010, showcasing new books by Monty Python’s Terry Jones and writer / broadcaster Jonathan Meades.
Each Unbound author publishes an extract from their book and creates a video pitch.
If the project hits its target, the book is finished, designed, edited and printed as a beautifully bound, limited-edition hardback.
All pledgers have their names added to the back of the book to thank them for their support, and they get to hold in their hands a book that wouldn't have existed without their help.
